About Me

Simply put: I LOVE teaching and learning!

In his book, The Courage to Teach:Exploring the Inner Landscape of a Teacher's Life*, Parker Palmer (1998) beautifully mirrors my own thoughts about teaching: I am a teacher at heart, and there are moments in the classroom when I can hardly hold the joy. When my students and I discover uncharted territory to explore, when the pathway out of a thicket opens up before us, when our experience is illumined by the lightning-life of the mind--then teaching is the finest work I know (p. 102).

Whether as an instructor or workshop facilitator, I am privileged to have many opportunities to share and discover new ideas in both formal and informal settings. Because I teach, I also value learning.  I am an avid reader of information related to teaching and learning:  blogs, newsletters, articles, books.  I also value collaborating with others to deepen my own understanding of what it means to be an effective facilitator or learning.  My most recent focus has been learning more about emerging technologies in education.  I have discovered how much richer the learning experience can be for learners when technology tools are used in meaningful ways. This Reflections of Teaching and Learning blog is but a small record of thoughts and resources related especially to online learning.

In my spare time, I treasure being with my family, escaping in a good book, going for walks, watching the miracles of changing seasons, and sharing stories via Skype with our two precious grand-daughters who both have wonderfully creative imaginations and energy for all things [well, maybe not for cleaning up their toys!] Though they live far away, they are always close to my heart ♥
